Worcester (Kerr and Binns) plate
A very fine and rare Worcester plate from the Kerr and Binns period, 1851-1862, the rich dark blue "Baxter" border with gadrooned rim and raised anthemion and scrolled gilding, the centre beautifully painted with the Madonna della Sedia after Raphael, possibly by either Thomas Bott or Josiah Rushton. Marked to the reverse with the Kerr and Binns impressed circle mark (partly obscured by glaze, see final photo)
The original tondo by the High Renaissance Master Raphael from which this is copied was painted circa 1513-1514 and is now in the Palazzo Pitti in Florence. Raphael died in 1520. He was just 37 years old.
Date: Circa 1855
Width: 9 inches ( 23 cm.)
Condition: Very good with no damage or restoration. Typical very minor wear to two or three points of the outer rim and a few tiny spots of light wear to the gilt above the Madonna's head. Any other discolouration shown to the gilding in the images is purely reflection.
