An extremely decorative Davenport cabinet plate, the everted rim with gilt patterning, the plate painted all over, probably by Richard Ablott, with a picturesque Italian scene of the Papal Palace at Castel Gandolfo, standing on a hill overlooking Lake Albano. Inscribed to the bottom edge ' Castle Gandolfo ' and marked to the reverse with the crowned factory mark in orange.
The Palace of Castel Gandolfo, south east of Rome, was for centuries the summer home of the Popes. It is now a museum.
