Six signed Brown- Westhead Moore plates for Tiffany New York

From a Private Collection in the USA, a striking set of six Brown-Westhead Moore dessert plates for Tiffany, New York, each with lobed, moulded rim enhanced with gilding, the rich green border decorated with raised gilt arrows, trailing and flowing twigging and fine gilt beading. Each plate well painted with game birds and others in landscapes; Plovers, Red Grouse, Red Head, Snipe, Woodcock and Kentish Plover and each signed J. Birbeck. The reverse of each plate with gilt footrim and the name of each subject together with pattern number B 8627 and the crowned gilt backstamp of Brown-Westhead Moore & Co. and Tiffany & Co. New York.

The talented artist Joseph Birbeck was a member of the prolific Birbeck family of ceramic painters. He enjoyed a long and successful career working for a number of major factories such as Coalport, Copeland and Davenport and was with Brown-Westhead Moore from the early 1880's painting game birds and other subjects, particularly for the American market.

The firm of Brown-Westhead Moore & Co. (1861-1904) were direct successors to the old established and important porcelain manufacturers Ridgway. They produced extremely high quality wares for, amongst many others, the British Royal Family, the Russian Imperial Family and top American retailers such as these for Tiffany New York.

Condition: Excellent and undamaged, the odd typical light spots of wear to the gilt footrims.
