Derby inkwell

A fine ,Derby inkwell of drum shape with bold ring handle, five quill apertures and original removable well, the rich dark blue ground decorated to the top with gilt bunches of grapes and tendrils and all round with stylised trailing and flowing vine leaves and grapes. Marked underneath in red with the hand written Derby factory mark of crown and D together with number 33.

The Derby factory records show that the gilders number 33 was for Thomas Till. This is likely to be the same highly regarded Thomas Till who, in the early 1830's, went on to become one of Minton's principal gilders.

Date: Circa 1825.

Width including handle,  5  3/4 inches (14.5 cm)  Height to top of handle,  3 inches (7.5 cm)

Condition: Very good, undamaged and unworn with just typical occasional light spots of wear to edges.
